Intel Larrabee Launch Canceled

Intel has canceled the plan to launch the GPU (graphical processing unit) under the codename 'Larrabee'. The reason of this cancelation is the product which has been developing is less sophisticated than the technology which already in the market.

Intel spokesperson Nick Knupffer, as reported by Techtree, Monday (7 / 12), states if silicon technologies and Software platforms which developed for Larrabee is inappropriate. ATI Radeon HD5000 graphics card product cited as the cause of Intel's plan apart.

Dual GPU in the PCB (print circuit board) used the ATI Radeon 5970 is capable of computing process until 5 teraflop or loating point five trillion operations per second. While the new Larrabee able to 2 teraflop.

This is what makes Intel decided to discontinue the product can not compete in the marketplace. Nevertheless, Intel plans to release Larrabee as platorm Sotware development for the development of high performance computers and graphics cards.

ATI is the market leader for products that support DirectX11. NVidia will launch Fermi architecture GPU with a major competitor.
